Signs Your Water Heater Needs Repair

Water-heater-displayedSigns Of Water Heater Failure

You don’t really want to be left without hot water. Cold showers? I’ll pass! Sometimes, you may not know your water heater is about to fail and you would be better off calling for water heater repairs. But there are signs to watch for that can help you avoid cold shower and possible damage to the unit. Here are a few indicators that you need water heater repair before your water heater fails on you completely:

Old Age

Knowing the age of your water heater is important. You can find the age by looking for the serial number on the manufacturer’s sticker, which should be on the upper portion of the water heater. The serial number will have the age of manufacturing, but it won’t look like a normal date. The first two digits in the serial number equal the last two digits of the year in which it was created. If the water heater is more than 10 years old, you should consider replacing it before water heater repairs and failure become an issue.

Rusty Water

If you see rusty water coming out of your water heater or notice a reddish or yellow-brown color when you are running hot water, your water heater could be rusting from the inside out. It could start to leak at any time and cause serious damage. Water heater repairs may be necessary. If you get rusty water when you run any kind of water, hot or cold, you might have pipe issues that you need to speak to your plumber about.

Any time an appliance makes noise, you need to have it checked out. When a water heater ages, it builds up sediment on the bottom of the tank. That sediment gets heated and reheated and eventually gets hard. You might hear a rumbling or banging sound from the water heater when that happens. It’s a big sign that the water heater is nearing the end of its life and you need water heater repairs or a replacement. The more sediment you have, the less efficient the water heater will be.

Water Leaking

If you see water around the water heater tank, even if it is just a little moisture, you could have a small leak or fracture in the tank. You don’t want any leaks at all because you never know when they will cause the water heater to fail completely. Get water heater repairs or call for a new water heater.
